Abstain, Nominate, Potluck and more
Dear Church,
Abstain.
One essential step in discipleship is to “abstain from sinful desires.” Is this because God doesn’t want his children to have fun? Hardly. It’s because those desires “wage war against your soul” (1 Peter 2:11).
Live good lives.
And the life of discipleship isn’t just abstinence…another essential step in discipleship is to live such good lives that the “pagans…see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us” (1 Peter 2:12). So, Christians are people who abstain from evil and indulge in the good so that the world will see the evidence of God in us.
Daniel lived this way. When his jealous co-workers tried to find something wrong, “they could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent” (Daniel 6:4).
My Prayer:
Jesus, would you give Daniel’s strength of character to the people of the church today. We confess that we have done things that do not bring you glory. Help us abstain from evil and indulge in the good. Help us be trustworthy and not corrupt or negligent in our responsibilities. We want people to see evidence of your goodness and love in the way that we live.

DO YOU HAVE NOMINATIONS FOR CHURCH ELECTIONS?
On Sunday November 13, we will have our annual church board elections. Each Nazarene church is directed "to elect as church officers active members of the local church who profess the experience of entire sanctification and whose lives bear public witness to the grace of God that calls us to a holy life; who are in harmony with the doctrines, polity, and practices of the Church of the Nazarene; and who support the local church faithfully in attendance, active service, and with tithes and offerings. Church officers should be fully engaged in “making Christlike disciples in the nations.”" (For the rest of the manual statement) Stillmeadow board members serve three year terms.
If you have nominations, you may submit them on this form by September 28. Our nomination committee will review the nominees and then contact them to see if they will allow their name to run for election.
