1. Begin with silent prayer to center your heart.

2. Read Psalm 130 aloud.

3. What are some other phrases to describe being “in the depths”?

4. What makes it difficult to be honest with God, ourselves and others about “the depths” we experience? Or even the sin we’ve committed?

5. Where in your life do you feel “in the depths”?

6. Read Psalm 130 again. Which phrase or verse brings comfort and encouragement for those “in the depths”?

7. Read Psalm 130 one more time. What instructions do you find in this pilgrimage Psalm? How will you live those out this week? 

8. Close in prayer around this question: What in my life is God inviting me to “wait on him” about?  

A Way to Prayerfully Reflect on Psalm 130 (alone or as a group)

1. Invite the Holy Spirit to direct your heart and mind.

2. Read Psalm 130 slowly. Which verse does the Holy Spirit draw your attention to? Write this down or share.

3. Read Psalm 130 slowly again. Choose a short phrase (4-9 words) on which to contemplate. Write this down or share.

4. Read Psalm 130 one more time. This time, choose one word. Why does this word resonate with you in this season? Write it down or share.

5. Finish by repeating the word or phrase as a prayer to God.
