Reflection Questions:
Prayerfully reflect on Psalm 103:1-5. How has God redeemed or satisfied you?
Read Solomon’s prayers in 1 Kings 3:5-14 and 2 Chronicles 6:12-21. What can you learn for your own prayer life from these prayers?
Read the three main rules for kings listed in Deuteronomy 17:14-20. You can see that Solomon blew right past these in 1 Kings 4:26, 10:14-27 and 11:3. How could one so “wise” be so ignorant of the guidelines?
What are some basic guidelines in your own life that you repeatedly ignore instead of following?
God speaks to Solomon again in 1 Kings 11:9-13. What is the heart of the problem for Solomon?
In the sermon on the mount Jesus addressed the issues of greed and worry in Matthew 6:19-34. What guidance do his words give?
Jesus listed money, food and clothing as things not to obsess about. Describe your relationship with those things. Do you struggle to seek God’s kingdom and righteousness first in those (or other) areas?
Close in prayer: Ask God for wisdom and power to seek His kingdom first in all things.
