Reflection Questions
Begin with a prayer pause. Read Mark 10:46-52 and then repeat “Lord Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me” quietly in prayer, imagining Jesus before you.
Explore the idea of blindness and discipleship. How have you found discipleship to Jesus a “regaining of sight”?
Read Mark 10:46-52 again. What is your attention drawn to in this story?
In Mark 10:48, Bartimaeus was rebuked for crying out. In Mark 11:15-18, Jesus decluttered the temple to remind them the temple was supposed to be a place of prayer. What can we personally do to declutter our personal lives for prayer? What about our family or small group lives?
Jesus gave two qualifiers for prayer in Mark 11:22-25: faith and forgiveness. Why are these two essential ingredients? What happens if one is lacking?
Bartimaeus asked for mercy, needing attention and help. Slow down and consider, where in your life do you need God’s mercy? Bring that to Jesus now. If you’re comfortable, cry it out loud.
Bartimaeus also asked for sight. Where in your life do you need better vision and understanding? Ask him for that now.
Close in prayer. Give thanks for blessings. Lift up any who are sick. Ask for softness of heart for the lost.
