Reflection Questions
Begin with a prayer pause, recognizing that our times are in God’s hands (Psalm 31:15) and that He has set eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
Thinking of Time: What’s your favorite Season and why?
Take a minute to reflect on this question: what is your general feeling about election season?
Now read Mark 8:27-38 slowly…what does this have to say about expectations and discipleship?
In Mark it seems like Peter had some political ideas that needed to be corrected. What are ways that people can make politics an idol today?
How does Jesus’ invitation to self denial, carrying your cross, and following him guide us as Christians in today’s political climate?
Why is listening to Jesus an important discipleship habit? How does it help us resist political idolatry?
Thinking specifically about today’s political environment, how have words been used to dishonor others, which in turn dishonors God?
Considering the need to listen to Jesus first and speak well of others, how is He calling you to follow Him in this political season? What is He calling you to adjust so that you live according to His politics?
Close in prayer. Ask for grace for the church to not fall to the temptation of political idolatry. Commit to the adjustments he is calling you to.
