Reflection Questions
Begin with a prayer pause on Psalm 25:4-7. Choose a line to meditate on for 2 minutes.
What is the difference between peace and anxiety?
Read Zechariah’s song in Luke 1:68-79. What stands out to you?
Zachariah, a priest and a member of the ruling elite, proclaims praise to God for his mercy in the past and his faithfulness in the present. How does his perspective appear to have altered in his time of silence? What kind of changes do you think he went through preparing for a son?
Read Luke 1:78-79. What is the evidence of God’s tender mercies?
If you had been listening to this prophetic praise, what kind of peace would you have expected from changing your perspective with Zechariah?
Can you remember a time when the Advent season was anything but peaceful. How does it help you to know that you are never alone? What experience could you share to help someone else that is going through a “blue” time?
Who do you know that might need the light of God’s peace in this season? How can you share God’s tender mercies with them?
Finish in prayer. Ask God for peace in your own heart where there is anxiety. Ask God for peace in the lives of those who are living in the darkness.
