Sermon Series: The Indestructible Kingdom Sermon: Meet Daniel, Meet God

Daniel 1:1-17, 2:14, 2:20-23, 2:27-30, 1 Peter 1:17-25

DANIEL’S LIFE GOT FLIPPED TURNED UPSIDE DOWN

DANIEL FACED BABYLONIAN INDOCTRINATION

But Daniel resolved not to defile himself (Dan 1:8).

Daniel’s Resolution Looked Like…

  1. A decision not to conform to Babylon (1:8)

  2. An test to stand out (1:12)

  3. Tactfulness to authority (2:14)

  4. Prayer to God (2:18)

  5. Listening to God’s Revelation (2:30)

The Reason for Daniel’s Resolution was the truth that God rules and God reveals. (Daniel 2:20-23)

In our world, we have troubles personally, locally, nationally and globally. And our culture is like Babylon’s: it is not neutral. But like Babylon, our culture and our troubles are not permanent.

The question for us: Are we resolved like Daniel? Have we made up our mind to conform to the indestructible and eternal kingdom of God? Do we live “as foreigners here in reverent fear” (1 Peter 1:17)

Message Reflection Questions

  1. Begin with silence.

  2. What did God say to you through the message?

  3. Read Daniel 1:1-17. Describe the great changes happening in Daniel’s life. What are radical shifts in today’s world? Personally? Locally? Nationally?

  4. How do you see God’s rule and revelation in this chapter?

  5. Read 1 Peter 1:17-25. In what ways are Christians foreigners in this world?

  6. What do you think it looks like to resolve to live in “reverent fear” (1 Pet 1:17) or “to not defile yourself” (Daniel 1:8)?

  7. What steps do you need to take to show resolve in your own life?

  8. Close in prayer. Include prayers for Christians in persecuted countries and for resolve to live like Daniel.
