Message Reflection Questions

  1. Begin with silent prayer to center your heart.

  2. Read Matthew 4:23-5:12. How do the beatitudes fit within Jesus’ main message: “the kingdom of heaven has come”?

  3. Which of the first four beatitudes do you relate to most? Name a person or two who fits one of those.

  4. How do you see Jesus’ life matching the beatitudes he shares?

  5. Read 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. How do Paul’s words about “Christ crucified” line up with Jesus’ beatitudes?

  6. Other than mercy, pure-heartedness, peace-making, what virtues do you see Jesus encouraging in the beatitudes?

  7. How is the virtue of being merciful supported by pure-heartedness and how does it lead to be being a peacemaker?

  8. Which of these three would you like to see increase in your own life? What spiritual practice can help you pursue God in that?

  9. Close in prayer.

Tuesday: Matthew 17

Wednesday: Matthew 18

Thursday: Matthew 19

Helpful Instructions for reading

  1. Start with silence. Relax in God’s presence. Imagine resting with Jesus.

  2. Thank God for something that happened in the last 24 hours.

  3. Read the verses slowly.  Ask:

a.  What does this teach me about God?

b. What does this teach me about God’s kingdom?

c. What needs to adjust in me to live according to His kingdom?

  1. Finish in prayer for yourself, your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, your church. Pray through the nations at www.prayercast.com/nations.html
