Family Worship and Rise Against Hunger this Sunday

Dear Family,

Family Worship is this Sunday, July 30!

One of the most important things we do as a church is pass the faith along to the next generation. This isn’t just about passing “information” along, as if reciting theology is our goal. No, this is about sharing the essential practices that help us become like Jesus.

How are they going to know Jesus and how are they going to know how to worship Him and grow in Him? Relationships with others who know and worship and serve Jesus. That’s how. Our family ministry events are about building and sustaining relationships through which our children and youth can encounter Jesus in each other and in the lives of the generations ahead of them.

And this Sunday we get to both Worship Together and Serve Together across generations. We’ll pray, praise, and learn together in the Worship Services and then we’ll join our hands and hearts in ministry during the Rise Against Hunger event right after the 10:30 service. And FYI, we will have our nursery open for our 0 - 2 year olds during the worship services.

During our Worship Service together, we’re going to recite the Apostle’s Creed together. This statement reminds us of the essential beliefs of our faith, the ones that unite us with other Christians across denominational lines. Slowly read over this and give thanks to God for the story that shapes us.

“I believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth;

“And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell;

the third day He rose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

“I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy Church of Jesus Christ,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.”

PS…What’s your favorite line in the Creed? Or which ones make you scratch your head in confusion or raise your hands in gratitude? For me, I am thankful for the communion of saints, that mysterious bond that we have with other believers through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
