Memory Verse for our New Series

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

ROMANS 9:1-5

I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit— 2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, 4 the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. 5 Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.

 Message Reflection Questions

  1. Read Romans 15:13. Take two minutes to silently repeat this verse in prayer.

  2. Describe Paul’s heart for the Jewish people based on 9:1-5. Where is there despair? Where is there hope?

  3. What do you learn about God’s power and promise in 9:6-13?

  4. How is God’s mercy on display in 9:14-18?

  5. What does 9:19-29 tell us about God’s plans and heart?

  6. Why is it important to recognize and rely on God’s power, promise, mercy and plans instead of our works and accomplishments?

  7. Confession Time: How can you grow in trust in God’s power, promise, mercy and plans this week?

  8. Look over those verses again: which verse could you use to help you keep your trust in Christ?

  9. Real Talk: Is your heart as broken as Paul’s for those who don’t trust Jesus? Why or why not?

  10. Prayer Time: Ask God to break your heart for what breaks his. Pray for someone you know who doesn’t trust in Jesus yet.
