The Indestructible Kingdom Part 5: Confession

Daniel 9:1-19, Leviticus 26:40-42, Deuteronomy 30:9-10, Jeremiah 29:10-13, 1 John 1:8-2:2

YOU CAN’T OUTRUN THE COST OF SIN

(Leviticus 26:14-39, Deuteronomy 28:15-68)

GOD ALWAYS GIVES AN OFF-RAMP FROM THE ROAD OF DISOBEDIENCE THAT IS AN ON-RAMP TO THE ROAD OF RESTORATION

  • Confess your sins (Lev. 26:40-42)

  • Turn to God with all your heart and soul (Deut. 30:9-10)

  • Seek God with all your heart (Jer. 29:13)

DANIEL’S CHAPTER 9 PRAYER TIME GIVES US A PATTERN TO FOLLOW

  • Adore God Most High

  • Admit our faults and failures

  • Ask God for help

CONFESSION GOES AGAINST THE FLOW OF OUR CULTURE BUT PUTS US IN THE FLOW OF GOD’S RESTORATION

1 John 1:8-10

PRACTICING CONFESSION TODAY

In joining with Daniel, we come to God with our confessions, not only of our personal sins but of our community’s sins. We remember that “if we confess our sins, [God] is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

Take time to process this and then use the following prompts to guide a time of confession with Christ.

LORD, I confess the sins of my life. I have disobeyed you by…

LORD, I confess the sins of my family. We have done wrong by…

LORD, I confess the sins of York. We have turned away by…

LORD, I confess the sins of America. We have rebelled by...

Message Reflection Questions

  1. Begin with silence.

  2. What did God say to you through the message?

  3. Read Daniel 9:1-19. Highlight the character and attributes of God that Daniel gives.

  4. List all the different ways that sin is described in Daniel 9:1-19. Which one resonates most with you?

  5. Read 1 John 1:8-10 and consider that Daniel confessed his own sins and the sins of his people. What role does confession play in our relationship with God?

  6. Why is confession difficult in today’s culture? Why is confession essential in our growth to become like Jesus?

  7. How can we make confession part of our personal spiritual growth plans? What will you do?

  8. Close in prayer. Include prayers for Christians in persecuted countries and for resolve to live like Daniel.
