Scripture: 2 Samuel 22-24, Psalm 93

Today’s reading is one of the last entries from David. So what does David share at the summation of his entries? What are his final words to the reader? He paints a portrait of the ideal theocratic king, “rules in righteousness” and “like the light of morning at sunrise”.  Psalm 93 continues with a vivid description of a divine ruler greater than anything we see on earth, “More  majestic than the thunders of mighty waters,”. Today, we know the divine ruler to be Jesus Christ but David was anticipating a more immediate solution, sending a warning, probably to     Solomon, regarding the dangers of ruling without the fear of God.

Like David, I sometimes put my faith in the more immediate solutions; new managers, bosses, politicians, church leaders, etc, only to find they fall prey to the same human condition as the rest of us. No new laws or initiatives created by man ever resolved heart issues. My hope must always lie in the only divine, righteous king, Jesus Christ. In this life, I may be subject to man’s law, but I eternally rest my hope for salvation on God’s law.

Heavenly Father and King, write your ways on my heart. Let them guide my thoughts to Your goodness.  May my actions always reflect Your law of love first. Amen
