Scripture: 2 Kings 12-14, Psalm 104

A verse from our Psalm today says that “…if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth.” For both man and animal, it is God who gives life. What we do with that life is up to us. In our scriptures today, kings were born, they reigned, and they died. Some did right in the eyes of the Lord, some did evil. And as we will read later in Chronicles, some did not finish out so well.

This causes me to examine my heart. Am I serving God single mindedly? James 1:6 says “…be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.” I want to live my life like the prophet Elisha who followed God wholeheartedly and was used by God to lead the people and to do good for the people.

Prayer:

Father, may all my thoughts be pleasing to you. May I remember life and breath are in your hands and what I do with this day does make a difference. I pray that I will walk in the light you give me each day and obey you in all things.  Amen
