Scripture: Joshua 1-4, Psalm 65
Key Verse: Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
I believe it is easy to see GodStory in the chapters we read from Joshua. God has promised Abraham that he and his descendants would be given the Promised Land. The first thing Joshua did as the Israelites’ leader was to spy out the land so he could carry out that plan. I’m sure Joshua and the Israelites had to have some questions on exactly how that was going to happen. There were seven other tribes of people living in that land. They would need to be defeated and before that could happen, they had to cross the Jordan River which was at flood stage. In the first chapter God told Joshua, “Be strong and very courageous and obey My commands. Do not be discouraged. Do not be afraid. For I will be with you wherever you go.” And He was with them!
As I have lived my story, and faced my tribes and Jordan rivers, God has said to me, “Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, obey Me completely and I will be with you no matter what you go through.” And He has! I have a saying I like to use, it says, “Put your hands into God’s hands, He will never let go.” So, when I am having good days, I trust God, when I am having days that are just okay, I am trusting God and especially when I am having my Jordan River crossing days, I trust God. I know He will be with me (and you) wherever we go. He will never let go of our hand so let’s not let go of His.
Prayer: “God, as we face our daily lives, may we always choose to be courageous and trust You. You will get us through our wilderness and to the Promised Land. Amen.”
