Scripture: Joshua 13 – 21, Psalm 68
God’s Story:
Chapters 13-21 of Joshua provide a detailed account of the division of the Promised Land among the tribes of Israel. Prominent is God’s unwavering faithfulness in fulfilling His promises to His people. The concept of “inheritance,” of physical land allocated to each tribe and God’s provision and fulfillment of His covenant promises is evident. As the Israelites received their allotted portions, so believers today have an inheritance in Christ. This includes material possessions, spiritual blessings, and the assurance of God’s faithfulness throughout generations and resurrection!
Our (My) Story:
I grew up on a dairy farm that was passed to the oldest son for generations. Today, the farm is owned by my cousin who is childless, thus ending the tradition. Fortunately, my grandfather entered the farm in a “Land Conservation Farm Trust” insuring that it will remain farmland. The Amish community is aggressively pursuing the purchase of the farm. The struggle is real as we ponder being faithful to the “inheritance” tradition yet selling the land to a community outside the family.
Takeaway:
Whether in bible times or today, living in God’s promises involves having faith and patience. We may not see the fulfillment of His promises, but we must trust in His perfect timing. It is important to continue to remain hopeful even when circumstances are challenging.
Call a family meeting:
· Discuss the treasures that God has designed for you in this fast-paced world
· Seize the promises that have been set aside just for you.
· Take bold strides towards making your gifts a reality in your life and of those around you.
Prayer: Lord help me to remember your promise of the inheritance of eternal life through you. Thank you for loving me just as I am.
