Scripture: Judges 19-21, Psalm 76
I remember coming across this story for the first time a few years ago. I was totally reviled by it! How could such a thing happen among the people of God?!? Worse yet, when the people learned of this, they sought to bring justice to the situation and remove this wickedness from among them, even praying for guidance in their means of doing so. They went to WAR over it, and not once, but TWICE they failed! Where was God?!? I was put into a several-week funk over this! In those days I wrestled with God like Jacob had, pleading with Him for an explanation! Why would a Just, Righteous and Holy God let this happen?!?
Weeks later, I finally got my answer. Mind you it was not the answer I wanted, but it was AN answer none the less. One day when I was exhausted from wrestling, I heard the Still Small Voice of God "Look at the response of My people." And that was it. God wanted me to notice that when His people saw this vile wickedness had taken place among them, they sought to remove it and they refused to accept failure in doing so. They would try and try again until they succeeded no matter the cost because they were right in doing so.
