Stillnaz Youth Ministry Update 1/15

Happy Monday!

Today is Martin Luther King Jr day!  We are reminded today that "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."  I am praying today that our youth would rise up against injustice and be a group that seeks Jesus' justice in all spaces of their life and the world.

As we think about that, I wanted to make you aware that as we restructure our d-groups, your teen will be invited to serve once a quarter with their d-group.  We will be sending out more information on this in the future.  One way to partner in fighting injustice is to serve within our community.

As we plan for this year of relationships and service, I wanted to send out the preliminary details about Mission Week!  Mission week will be the week of June 24-28th and we need your prompt response by the end of this month if your teen is interested.  This is not a registration form but an interest form.  If your teen has any interest at all, please fill out the form.  We are attempting to get a rough idea of how many could be joining us as Holly Strait secures jobs for our teens!  Please fill out the form as soon as possible.

Just a reminder, our first sermon series in our year of relationships will be a zoomed in look at our core values and how they affect our relationships.  Last week we talked about building unity and sharing our stories.  This week we are talking about praying relentlessly.  We will be talking about how prayer affects our relationship with Jesus, each other and yourself.  We will be walking through the steps of the Ignatius Examen Prayer with a modern twist for teens called Daily Replay.

Here is the link to the video to explain the prayer practice and the 5 steps you can encourage your family to do together:

  1. Become aware of God's presence

  2. Review the day with gratitude

  3. Pray attention to your emotions

  4. Forgive and ask for forgiveness

  5. Look toward tomorrow

On Sunday mornings at Insight, we will be focusing in on a teen prayer series that will reinforce our core values and Pastor Josh's prayer series.  The series is on RightNowMedia and is led by Francis Chan.  It does incorporate topics such as sex, drugs, and peer pressure.  If that is something you are concerned about, please reach out and let me know!

Just a reminder we are going to have an all teen lock-in this Friday starting at 7:00pm.  We need volunteers!  You can use this link to sign-up your teen or to volunteer: http://tinyurl.com/5n8dzc37

Tomorrow night is the final deadline for sign-ups and then I will send an email around to those registered with details!

Also, if your teen signed up for Winter Jam, I will be sending details about that by the end of the week!

Finally, we need your help!  We have started an Instagram page for our teens and need parental permission for photo/video being taken and posted.  Could each of you send an email to pmoses@stillnaz.com stating whether your child can or cannot have the photo/video taken and posted?  We greatly appreciate it!

Also, below are the reflection questions for the sermon this week if you would like to visit some of these with your teen!

  1. What spoke to you in the message?

  2. How do you feel about the d-group changes?  Start to take time over the next month to end your current d-group and reflect on your time together.

  3. Are there any stories you want to share from this week?

  4. What is one prayer practice we can do regularly as a youth groups?

  5. Is it hard to keep God at the center of your life?

  6. Can you share what your examen experience was like?  What connected for you?  What did not connect for you?

  7. How does prayer affect all your relationships?

  8. What has your prayer life been like?

  9. What has kept you from prayer?

  10. Do you have any practices that help you remember to pray and bring everything to God?

Check out all the announcements below!  There are ways to serve, grow and invite!

Please always feel free to reach out!
