Stillnaz Youth Update 5/6/24

Stillmeadow Families,

Happy Monday!  Praying for each of you as you disciple your teen.  When Brian Hull was with us for Renew Weekend, we had the privilege to meet with him as a youth team.  There was so much valuable information about the youth of today, but something resonated with me in terms of our work as families as well as a faith community.  Teens desire a space to work out their faith.  They want to be able to ask the hard questions and journey through their faith, while not always having the "right" answer.  Fuller Youth Institute research shows that only 7-8% of young people have heard their father articulate their faith story and 30% have heard their mother share her faith story.  They have not learned how to talk about their faith and have a lot of questions about how to do that.  He also shared how teens desire to be asked questions that are just not superficial, for example:

How was your day but instead what is God saying to you lately?

Where have you seen God working around you this week?

What have you found yourself praying about lately?

What questions do you have about God, faith or church?

I am praying that we can partner to create spaces in our homes and our church for teens to wrestle through the hard questions, share what is going on in their lives, share their faith stories and for us to share our faith stories with them.

This Tuesday we will have our final sermon in our sex series on dating and next week we will wrap up the series with an interactive panel where the teens can ask questions about sex, dating and relationships.  If you have any questions, please let me know!  Here are the discussion questions:

  1.  What do you find the most annoying about the high school dating scene (no names)?

  2. Do you think it’s okay to date someone you know you aren’t going to marry?

  3. What are the main qualities you are looking for in a guy/girl that you would like to date?

  4. What questions do you have about dating as a Christian?

  5. How do you think you could better prioritize honoring and respecting others in all your relationships? What about specifically in dating relationships?

  6. Do any of you currently have boundaries that you have or plan to have in place when you are in a dating relationship?

  7. How hard or easy do you think it is to be in a dating relationship and continue pursuing your relationship with Christ wholeheartedly? Explain.

  8. As you think about this series, what is your biggest takeaway?

  9. How can we help each other wholeheartedly pursue Christ, love selflessly, and handle sex God’s way?

Please always feel free to reach out!

You are loved!
