This story points to one of the most important reasons for the weakness of the modern church.
One branch of Christianity – the social gospel branch, focused on social action.At the same time the evangelicals focus on evangelism.For decades they criticized each other.The result? Lopsided, ineffective churches.

Jesus concern was for the whole person.

Matthew 9:35 – “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news and healing every disease and sickness.”

What do we learn from Jesus example?

I. Jesus Loves People . . . the Whole Person.

1.Mark 8:34-38 – Jesus central concern.

2.Mark 1:40-45 – compassionate evangelism.

II.To Love As Jesus Loves.

1. I Corinthians 11:1 – follow Jesus example.

2. Living like Jesus . . . servant-hood, self-sacrifice and special concern for the poor and neglected.

3. Amos 5:21-24
