Rev. I’m preaching a series of sermons on God’s love for us. What should I tell them?
Rev. quoted John 3:16. No, he preached it! (I wonder how many times he quoted that verse in 40 years of preaching the gospel?)
What does that verse teach us about God’s love for us?
I. Love is A Choice
1. Hebrew word for love: hasag: the decision to love unconditionally.
2. John uses the word agape but the meaning of agape is almost identical to hasag: Agape is less an affection, and more a decision. Not just a feeling . . . it is something you do.
3. “Agape love is an exercise of the will in deliberate choice, made without assignable cause save that which lies in the nature of God Himself”. (W.E. Vine)
